On 2 March 2012, the Sakyong, Jamgön Mipham Rinpoche, gave a public
talk to an assembly of over 900 people in the historic Grace Cathedral in San
Francisco, where he introduced the Shambhala teachings on basic goodness and
enlightened society. In pointing out how our innermost feelings about who we
are have an impact on society, he stressed the importance of self-reflecting on
our human nature. As he said:
That moment when we get up in the morning, that split-second decision
about how we feel about ourselves, is really inexpressible. That moment of self-reflection and how we value our own existence has a dynamic and powerful
consequence on how we treat ourselves—and especially now, in terms of
society, how we treat others. The DVD includes as a PDF file an outline of the talk, which can be used for
personal study or in the context of group discussions.
